What to expect

The ceremony will take place at the city hall, or "mairie," of the 9th arrondissement. Weather permitting, we'll meet in the courtyard and then make our way into the ceremony room. The ceremony will be in French and lead by either the mayor of the 9th arrondissement or another civil authority (maire, adjoint, or conseiller municipal). So no, the person in the blue, white and red sash is not the president of France - that's what John first thought. Also, as the room may be a bit small, please be prepared to get cozy with your neighbors. We do expect that some of our guests may have to stand through the ceremony, but it is pretty quick, approximately 30 minutes.

Getting there

The Mairie du 9e Arrondissement is located at 6 Rue Drouot, 75009. For guests staying in Paris, we're hoping that you find accommodations close enough to easily walk there. Of course, taxies or Uber are a great option. If you plan to take the metro, there are several stations very close to the mairie:

  • Lines 8 and 9, metro station "Richelieu - Drouot"
  • Line 9, metro station "Le Peletier"
  • Line 3,  metro station "Bourse"

If you plan to drive, you can find public parking at:

  • Parking Chauchat Drouot, 14 Rue Chauchat, 75009

If you have any questions on how to find or get to the ceremony, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Weather

During October, Paris can be a bit on the wet and brisk side much of the time, but for meditative strolls in crisp air, long afternoons chatting or reading in warm cafes, and enjoying dramatic dusks in picturesque settings, the city is incomparable this time of year.

The average temperature in October starts off at 14°C (57°F) on October 1st and drops down to 9.5°C (49°F) by October 31st.

Daily highs start at 18°C (64°F) at the beginning of the month, and then fall to 13°C (55°F) towards the end of the month.

Daily lows range from 6°C (43°F) to 10°C (50°F), exceeding 14°C (57°F )or falling below 2°C(35°F) only one day out of every ten.

With an average of 25mm of rainfall divided amongst 13 days throughout the month, there’s a very good chance you’ll experience a shower or two, so be prepared and bring an umbrella with you. Moderate rain is the most common type of rain you’ll experience during October, but around October 30th at the end of the month is when it’s most likely to occur - so fingers crossed. Light rain is the second most likely type of precipitation you’ll experience and tends to happen around October 23rd.

What to wear

We will be dressed formally for the wedding ceremony at the mairie. But we encourage our guests to dress in what they feel comfortable wearing.

For ladies: After the ceremony we will be making a short walk from the mairie to the wine reception, which we hosted at a separate location approximately 350 meters away - a 5 minute walk. So if you decide to wear heels, this is the extent of walking you can expect.

In general, we're hoping for comfortably cool days and brisk evenings. So we recommend being prepared with a light jacket or sweater for the day. We'll keep on eye on the weather as the dates approach and will update this section with more information if we expect particular weather.

Wine Reception

Following the ceremony, we'll be hosting a wine reception walking distance from the Mairie. This is a french tradition called a "Vin d'honneur," which literally translates from French to "Wine of honor."

We imagine that we'll all arrive sometime between noon and 12:30pm. Here, we can share some together-time over a glass of wine and enjoy good company.

Following the wine reception, we have no official Lunch plans, so please consider the rest of the day open to continue the celebration, find some lunch, explore the city and have some fun. Just be sure to save some energy for Saturday night!

We have a few locations in mind for the "Vin d'honneur," and will update this section with more information once the location is confirmed.

What to expect

Expect to party all night, that's what. We'll be serving drinks, dining together, dancing together and having some serious fun all evening long. Dress to party. Dress to dance. We have the chateau reserved until 4am Sunday morning, so if you're up to it, plan to stay late too - so sleep in Saturday and get some rest. You're going to need it.

Getting there

The celebration will take place at Chateau de Santeny, Senteny 94440, approximately 35 to 40 minutes South East of Paris.  Unfortunately, travel by metro from Paris is not feasible. For those who plan to drive, please see the map at the bottom of this section for location and driving directions via Google Maps.

For those of you who are staying in Paris and do not have access to a car or prefer not to drive, we have arranged for a shuttle service to take you both to and from the event. Please be sure to indicated on your RSVP (or contact us) if you plan to use the shuttle so that we can confirm the number of passengers. Here are the details

Shuttle to Santeny

  • Shuttle Boarding time:  4:45pm
  • Boarding location: Palais Brogniart (Bourse), 28 Place de la Bourse, 75002
  • Closest Metro: Bourse (Line 3) or Grands Boulevards, Lines (8, 9)
  • Departure time: 5:00pm
  • Arrival at Chateau: 5:45pm
  • Contact Person: TBD (we'll post contact info as soon as possible)

Important note:  If you find yourself lost or running just a little late, please contact Ophelie Menier at +33 6 63 96 49 42 (local number 06 63 96 49 42) as soon as you can and let her know that you are just around the corner so that she can hold the shuttle.

We'll have a confirmed passenger list prior to departure, so we're going to do our absolute best to be sure that all names are checked off the list and accounted for before departure. If by chance you do miss the shuttle, you'll need to use a taxi or Uber. The distance is a bit further than Charles de Gaulle Airport, so we estimate the cost to be between 50 and 60 euros by taxi. So if you do plan to take the shuttle, we advise getting to the the meeting point 15 minutes early.

Weather

We're hoping for a pleasantly cool evening, likely pretty brisk and light rain is a possibility.

Daily low temperatures range from 6°C (43°F) to 10°C (50°F), exceeding 14°C (57°F) or falling below 2°C(35°F) only one day out of every ten. Fingers crossed.

What to wear

Similar to the wedding ceremony, Alex and John will be dressed formally for the celebration dinner. But guests are encouraged to dress in what they feel comfortable wearing, and in particular, what you feel comfortable dancing in.

We're hoping for a comfortably cool evening. Weather permitting, guests will have access to the chateau's terrace and garden.

We recommend being prepared with a jacket and scarf as it's possible by Sunday morning, it may be quite chilly outside. We'll keep on eye on the weather as the dates approach and will update this section with more information if we expect particular weather.

Getting home

For those of you who plan to take the shuttle to the event, shuttle service will also be provided to get you back home to Paris. For the moment, we plan two separate shuttle departures: One shuttle leaving earlier Sunday morning, and one leaving a bit later for those who have the stamina to party all night.

  • 1st shuttle home departure:  Approximately 2am
  • 2nd shuttle home departure:  Approximately 4am

The times above are somewhat tentative, so we'll see how it the evening plays out. There will be someone at the celebration who will be coordinating shuttle departures and will do their best to be sure that everyone is aware of each departure.

In the event that you would like to leave separate from the shuttle, we recommend taxi or Uber service. Taxi numbers will be provided at the event.
